THANK YOU! Our Final Project for Intro to Digital Media I last semester was to make a video using iMovie. It can be an actual film video, animation w/ Photoshop, or still frames. I chose to make a Stop-Motion Animation using a bjd (ball-jointed doll) and Shiro, the, uhm, mouse/hamster/rodent. xD And man, was it HARD! >_< My prof gave no tips whatsoever. So all i did was trial and error since I've never done this before. >_> This is mostly conceptual, so I didn't use the crappy category of 'Animation & Games'. And since I'm not a memeber for the DA Film circle, I have provided a link to my video below. All frames were taken by me, by myself. All are Still Frames in Sequence. I was using a Nikon D80 with a Tamron 28-80mm lens. And a tripod and reading lamp. Yes, a yellow-bulb reading lamp with a bendy head (Thanks uncle! xD). All props were either made or bought. Those bought come from Daiso. ;3 As rough and sketchy as this seems, I am proud of this little video. Especially of the 'drawing of the moon' part. Little smooth calligraphy there~ x3 I Photoshoped EVERY FRIGGIN' FRAME of that scene backwards. >_> (the moon was already there, just had to erase it frame-by-painful-frame.) Think that's easy? Well, it looks easy, it sounds easy, BUT when actually done, reality reminds you that why yes, there are shadows on the paper you're editing. =__= AND there are shadows on the wall too! and they are moving along with the action. <--had to edit my hand out in the scenes where he's bending to reach the box. >_> As for the model... uhm... that's Rin... he kinda had to "dress up" for me since i don't own any girl MSDs... *swtdrp* ehehe... Well, it definitely looks way more convincing than most animations (or live-action scenes, really) that try to edit around that issue and it breaks immersion a little no matter how hard they try.
Just one crit: Every time Rin handles the lid on that box it feels really obvious xie can't bend hir fingers and it looks like xie's fumbling with it. Maybe if you could have hir put it down a bit more slowly...
I don't think I've seen stop-motion done with these dolls XD There's definitely a huge potential here you've started to exploit...

hands: ack. uhm.. er... yes. >_> i was very much aware of his hands. this is actually the reason why i want to own one of the big dolls with jointed hands and changeable 'face plates' (diff expressions, closed eyes, etc.). hard enough to make Rin hold that brush and write! LOL. xD
box lid: oh, that scene... uhm... i was trying to hold him up/stop him from falling over with one hand, while making sure the camera was taking pics right... i realized that i wasn't able to take enough frames for that one because of this.
oh! oh! you should watch this video a company made! x3 they had to put armature in and stuff. this is the one that inspired me to try. :3 it is called "Love Is..." Just scroll down the bottom of the page~ It even has an article about it! :3 [link]
